There has never been a year quite like 2026 for tokenized equities.
According to Bitrue research, the tokenized stocks market crossed $1 billion in aggregate market capitalization with over 185,000 holders in March 2026, up from roughly $20 million and fewer than 1,500 users in December 2024. According to Bitrue research, xStocks sits at the center of that explosion, having recorded more than $25 billion in total trading volume with $4 billion settled on-chain since launch. The technology that allows a user in Argentina, South Africa, or Indonesia to buy and hold a tokenized Tesla share in a self-custodial wallet at any hour of the day, without a brokerage account, without foreign exchange conversion at unfavorable rates, and without minimum investment requirements, has moved from theoretical possibility to operational reality at extraordinary speed.
xStocks is the product of Backed Finance, a Swiss company whose issuance arm is Backed Assets (JE) Limited, a Jersey-registered Special Purpose Vehicle. According to Phemex research, Backed Finance brings financial assets onto blockchain rails with xStocks described as composable tokenized securities that track the value of real-world assets such as stocks and ETFs. The platform operates under a Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority prospectus regulation, with Kraken having acquired Backed Finance and become the institutional distribution partner. According to Incrypted research, Nasdaq is working with xStocks on tokenizing equity markets, providing the highest-tier institutional credibility in the category.
For Muslim investors, xStocks represents the most important new compliance question of 2026 in the real-world asset category. Our Shariah Board Chairman Dr. Usman Quddus has already issued a ruling confirming that business with xStocks of halal companies is permissible. This ruling is an important and positive foundation. But the 2026 xStocks ecosystem has developed significant DeFi integrations and the xPoints incentive program that require far more granular compliance guidance than a single ruling on the base token can provide.
The difference between holding xStocks of a halal company and participating in every xPoints farming activity on offer is not a difference of degree. It is a difference of kind. Some xPoints activities are permissible. Others are definitively Haram. Muslim investors need to know precisely which is which.
We ran xStocks through the full CoinStudy Halal Crypto Standard (HCS) methodology with comprehensive research into all 2026 developments. Here is the complete picture.
Holding xStocks of halal-classified companies is confirmed as permissible under our Chairman's direct ruling. The xPoints program launched March 17, 2026 creates a layered compliance picture where some activities are permissible and others are definitively Haram. Lending xStocks on Kamino or Euler for the 5x xPoints multiplier triggers the Riba red line. Providing Pendle YT positions for the highest xPoints multiplier triggers the Synthetic Interest Products red line. Securities lending embedded in xStocks default operations creates an indirect Riba exposure concern at the base token level that Muslim investors should monitor. Spot holding, free-market trading, and liquidity provision for spot trading pairs on Raydium, Orca, and Byreal for the 7x multiplier require individual assessment of the specific pool mechanics.
xStocks is a tokenized equity product issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited, a Jersey-based Special Purpose Vehicle, under a Liechtenstein FMA-regulated prospectus. According to Eco research, each xStock token is collateralized by the underlying share held with Clearstream Banking or InCore Bank, with Alpaca Securities LLC serving as the primary US broker-dealer custodian for US equities.
The token structure is precisely described as a tracker certificate rather than a direct equity share. According to available research citing the Base Prospectus, the token is a tracker certificate meaning you hold a debt claim on the issuer and bear issuer credit risk rather than holding direct equity. This legal distinction matters for the compliance assessment but does not by itself prohibit holding the tokens as the Chairman's ruling confirms.
The mint-and-custody loop is transparent and publicly verified. When a user mints xStocks, the underlying share is purchased on a traditional exchange, deposited with Alpaca Securities LLC in regulated custody, and a corresponding token is minted on-chain. Redemptions reverse this flow. A public Proof of Reserves dashboard makes the backing verifiable at any time, audited by The Network Firm and published on-chain by Chainlink Proof of Reserve.
Dividends are handled through automatic reinvestment rather than cash distribution. According to MEXC research, when a company distributes a dividend, the equivalent value is credited as additional xStock tokens to your wallet. For example, PepsiCo's dividend of March 31, 2026 was distributed as additional PEPx tokens. This automatic reinvestment means dividend income becomes additional token holdings rather than cash distributed to wallets, which removes the most direct concern about receiving interest-adjacent income from dividend distributions.
Our Shariah Board Chairman Dr. Usman Quddus issued a direct ruling on xStocks that is the foundational compliance confirmation for the entire category.
The Chairman's ruling states: Business with xStocks of halal companies is permissible.
This ruling confirmed that holding tokenized representations of halal-classified company stocks in a self-custodial wallet, trading them on spot markets, and using them for genuine investment purposes is permissible when the underlying company has passed CoinStudy's halal screening.
This ruling does not cover every activity the xStocks ecosystem enables. It covers the base holding and trading of xStocks of halal companies. The DeFi integrations, lending activities, Pendle YT positions, and securities lending mechanics all require separate assessment beyond this foundational ruling.
The most important new compliance concern that has emerged in the 2026 xStocks analysis is the securities lending mechanism documented in the Base Prospectus of May 8, 2026.
According to available research analyzing the Base Prospectus, securities lending is a lineup-wide default across xStocks products with Alpaca serving as the Prime Borrower. A survey of 13 xStocks products found that 12 were marked as Allowed for lending in their Final Terms, with only the AAPLx product marked as Not Applicable.
When Alpaca lends out the underlying shares that back xStocks tokens, it earns interest income from the share borrowers. These borrowers are typically short-sellers who pay borrowing fees to use the shares for their short positions. The interest income earned from this securities lending flows to Alpaca and potentially to the SPV rather than directly to xStocks token holders.
The compliance concern is specific and important. Every xStock token that Muslim investors hold is backed by underlying shares that may be lent out to short-sellers earning interest income in the background. According to the Base Prospectus risk factor cited in available research, lent shares leave the collateral account and stop counting as collateral, replaced by cash marked daily and shared pro rata across all lending-enabled products.
The Proof of Reserve dashboard does not distinguish lent shares from held shares and the live lent underlyings number is published only on a separate page. This creates less-than-complete transparency about whether the specific shares backing your xStock tokens are actively being lent at any given time.
The Islamic finance assessment of this securities lending is that it creates an indirect Riba exposure. The underlying assets backing xStock tokens are generating interest income through the lending mechanism without xStock token holders being aware or having opted in. This is different from xStock holders directly receiving interest income, but it is also different from holding shares in a company that conducts no interest-based lending on your behalf.
CoinStudy notes this as a significant concern that warrants ongoing monitoring and that Muslim investors deserve to know about. The Chairman's ruling on xStocks of halal companies being permissible was issued before the May 2026 Base Prospectus documenting the securities lending as a default lineup-wide activity. CoinStudy will submit this specific concern to the Chairman for clarification.
Market Cap Crossing $1 Billion — March 2026
According to Bitrue research, the tokenized stocks market crossed $1 billion in aggregate market capitalization with over 185,000 holders in March 2026. xStocks is the dominant platform in this category. This scale confirms that tokenized equities have moved from an experimental product to a functioning market with genuine adoption.
xPoints Program Launch — March 17, 2026
According to the official xStocks news page, the xPoints program launched in March 2026 as an incentive program designed to recognize and reward the community actively building, trading, integrating, and scaling xStocks across onchain ecosystems. According to available research, the program launched March 17, 2026 and covers trading, holding, liquidity provision, lending, and DeFi protocol interactions.
The xPoints program structure is the compliance-critical development for Muslim investors evaluating airdrop farming on xStocks. The specific activities and their xPoints multipliers determine which forms of participation are permissible and which are not.
Early 20% Permanent Boost
According to MEXC research, early wallets can secure a permanent 20% boost to all future xPoints accumulation. According to available research, connecting your wallet to the xStocks portal early locks in this permanent boost. The boost applies to all permissible xPoints activities and is obtained simply by registering your wallet, which is itself permissible.
Kraken Acquisition of Backed Finance and Kraken xStocks Program
According to Eco research, Kraken's xStocks program launched in 2026 using Backed as the issuance partner and settling on Solana for retail users outside the United States. The Kraken acquisition of Backed Finance creates significant institutional distribution infrastructure for xStocks, bringing Kraken's existing user base to the tokenized equity category.
Nasdaq Partnership
According to Incrypted research, Nasdaq is working with xStocks on tokenizing equity markets. This partnership with the operator of the world's most widely watched equity index provides institutional credibility that no other tokenized equity platform has achieved.
South Africa and Latin America Expansion
According to Incrypted research, in South Africa xStocks launched with settlement in rand without foreign currency conversion, with nearly 50,000 local users holding tokenized equities via Luno by April 2026. In Latin America, xStocks entered into a partnership with Bitso as the first regional partner providing access to tokenized instruments in Argentina. These emerging market expansions directly serve the Muslim investor communities in regions where conventional financial access is limited.
Solana Dominance and Multi-Chain Expansion
According to MEXC research, Solana currently accounts for approximately 93% of xStocks on-chain market share. The platform is actively expanding to Ethereum, TON, Tron, Mantle, and BNB Chain through the Xbridge infrastructure powered by Chainlink CCIP.
July 2026 Nado Integration with Boosted xPoints
According to available research, starting July 8, 2026 trading xStocks on Nado earns boosted xPoints along with Nado Points, with holding positions adding a 25% xPoints multiplier and trading across a wider range of xStocks pushing it higher.
Pendle STRCx Pool — August 2026
According to available research on weekly DeFi airdrop farming, Pendle launched an STRCx pool with August 2026 maturity bringing tokenized Strategy preferred stock yield on-chain with Pendle YT and LP holders receiving the highest xPoints multiplier available. This is the most compliance-concerning xPoints integration of 2026 and is the basis for the Synthetic Interest Products red-line trigger.
The xPoints program has multiple earning activities with different compliance profiles. This is the most practically important section of this analysis for Muslim investors who want to farm xPoints permissibly.
Connecting Wallet and Early 20% Boost — Permissible ✅
Registering your wallet with the xStocks portal to secure the permanent 20% boost is free and requires no financial activity. This is permissible for all Muslim investors regardless of what subsequent activities they choose to pursue.
Holding xStocks of Halal Companies — Permissible ✅
Holding xStocks of halal-classified companies in your self-custodial wallet earns the base 1x xPoints rate. This activity is confirmed permissible under the Chairman's ruling. The securities lending concern noted above is disclosed to Muslim investors for awareness but does not yet change the base holding permissibility pending the Chairman's specific ruling on the securities lending mechanics.
Spot Trading of Halal Company xStocks — Permissible ✅
Buying and selling xStocks of halal-classified companies on spot markets earns trading-based xPoints. Spot trading of halal company tokens is permissible under the Chairman's ruling.
According to available research, providing liquidity on Raydium, Orca, or Byreal for the 7x xPoints multiplier is the highest permissible xPoints earning activity for Muslim investors. Liquidity provision for spot trading pairs of halal company xStocks in a non-lending, non-leveraged structure is conditionally permissible under the Chairman's ruling on liquidity provision for permissible trade. Muslim investors should verify that the specific liquidity pool they join does not enable leveraged or lending-based activity before providing liquidity.
Lending on Kamino Finance for 5x Multiplier — Haram ❌
Depositing xStocks into Kamino Finance to earn the 5x xPoints multiplier constitutes DeFi lending at interest. Borrowers who access your xStocks through Kamino pay interest on their outstanding loan balances. You earn interest income paid by those borrowers. This is Riba in the same direct form as depositing any other token into Aave or Compound. The Chairman confirmed this principle in his ruling on DeFi lending: taking profit on a loan is Haram in Islamic jurisprudence. The 5x multiplier does not make this permissible. Do not use this path.
Lending on Euler (Ethereum) — Haram ❌
The same Riba analysis applies to lending xStocks on Euler on Ethereum. Interest paid by borrowers is Riba regardless of which blockchain the lending protocol operates on. Do not use this path.
Lending on JupLend or Loopscale on Solana — Haram ❌
Same analysis as Kamino and Euler. Any lending protocol that distributes borrower interest payments to depositors creates Riba income regardless of the xPoints multiplier attached to it.
Pendle YT Positions for Highest xPoints Multiplier — Haram ❌
This is the most directly prohibited activity in the entire xPoints program. According to available research, Pendle YT and LP holders receive the highest xPoints multiplier available with perpetual accrual and no separate claim needed. CoinStudy has published a comprehensive analysis specifically addressing Pendle YT tokens on xStocks and concluded they are Haram as synthetic interest products. The Chairman's ruling that AI features do not change the compliance classification of financial structures also applies here: the xPoints incentive attached to a Pendle YT position does not change what the YT is, which is a synthetic interest product capturing the future yield stream of an xStocks position. Do not use this path under any circumstances.
The Chairman's ruling confirms that xStocks of halal companies are permissible. This requires knowing which companies pass CoinStudy's halal screening. The following is CoinStudy's current assessment of major xStocks available:
Apple AAPLx: CoinStudy has analyzed Apple under AAOIFI stock screening methodology and confirmed it as halal-classified based on current financial ratios. Muslim investors may hold AAPLx.
NVIDIA NVDAx: CoinStudy has analyzed NVIDIA and confirmed it as halal-classified. GPU computing and AI infrastructure with permissible business model. Muslim investors may hold NVDAx.
Amazon AMZNx: CoinStudy has analyzed Amazon and confirmed it as halal-classified under AAOIFI methodology. Muslim investors may hold AMZNx.
Google GOOGLx: CoinStudy has analyzed Google and confirmed it as halal-classified. Muslim investors may hold GOOGLx.
Tesla TSLAx: Tesla requires individual assessment pending updated financials. CoinStudy will publish the specific analysis.
MicroStrategy MSTRx: MicroStrategy's primary business is Bitcoin acquisition and holding with corporate debt financing used to purchase Bitcoin. This creates specific Islamic finance concerns around the debt structure that require individual analysis before Muslim investors hold MSTRx.
SPYx representing the S&P 500 index: SPY bundles 500 companies of which many have not passed AAOIFI screening. Muslim investors should not hold SPYx until a comprehensive halal screening of the basket composition is completed and published. CoinStudy's stocks section will address index fund screening when launched.
SGOVx representing US Treasury bills: This is explicitly Haram. SGOV provides direct investment exposure to US government bonds that pay interest income. This is the most directly impermissible xStock available on the platform regardless of its spot trading mechanism.
According to multiple research sources, xStocks has not officially confirmed a native token or airdrop. According to Incrypted research, the xStocks team has not announced plans to launch its own token but activity on the platform may be rewarded as part of an airdrop for Ink users. According to MEXC research, the xPoints program move frequently precedes a token launch in crypto, though none has been officially confirmed yet.
Muslim investors should understand that farming xPoints is based on the expectation rather than the confirmed promise of future token rewards. Participating in xPoints farming through permissible activities is investing time and potentially trading capital on the expectation of a future reward that has not been formally committed. This is an investment risk rather than a compliance concern, but honest disclosure of this uncertainty is necessary for informed decision-making.
Ecosystem Riba Exposure — ⚠️ Concern at two levels. Securities lending documented as default in May 2026 Base Prospectus creates indirect Riba exposure through interest earned on lent underlying shares. DeFi lending integrations through Kamino, Euler, Loopscale, and JupLend create direct Riba exposure when xStocks are lent to interest-paying borrowers. Base token holding assessed as passing under Chairman's ruling pending further Chairman review of securities lending mechanics.
Gambling and Betting — ✅ Passed.
Haram Industry — ✅ Passed at platform level. Individual stock tokens require halal company screening.
Guaranteed Interest — ❌ Triggered for lending activities. Kamino 5x, Euler, Loopscale, and JupLend lending all involve interest paid by borrowers to xStocks depositors.
Synthetic Interest Products — ❌ Failed. Pendle YT positions on xStocks are synthetic interest products capturing the future yield stream of tokenized equity positions. Highest xPoints multiplier specifically incentivizes this Haram activity.
Overall Assessment: Holding halal xStocks is permissible. Lending and Pendle activities are Haram. Base token holding under ongoing Chairman review for securities lending mechanics.
Before engaging with xStocks, ask yourself honestly.
Do I understand that the May 2026 Base Prospectus documents securities lending as a default lineup-wide activity where Alpaca lends out the underlying shares backing most xStocks tokens to earn interest income, and that CoinStudy is seeking the Chairman's specific ruling on whether this embedded securities lending mechanism changes the compliance assessment of holding the base token? Am I clear about which specific xStocks are of halal-classified companies and have I verified each company against CoinStudy's stock analysis before purchasing, specifically avoiding SGOVx which represents Treasury bills and any index funds like SPYx that bundle unscreened companies? Do I understand that the 5x xPoints multiplier from lending on Kamino and Euler is earned through a Riba structure where interest paid by borrowers flows to depositors, and that no xPoints multiplier changes this compliance classification? Am I aware that the highest xPoints multiplier from Pendle YT positions is earned through a mechanism CoinStudy has specifically analyzed and classified as Haram synthetic interest products, and that this is the most directly prohibited activity in the entire xPoints program?
xStocks presents the most nuanced and layered compliance assessment in CoinStudy's analysis history because it is genuinely permissible at the base holding level and genuinely prohibited at the DeFi integration level, with an important new concern at the securities lending level requiring further Chairman review.
Holding xStocks of halal-classified companies, confirmed by Chairman Dr. Usman Quddus's direct ruling that business with xStocks of halal companies is permissible, is the cleanest and most clearly permissible engagement with the xStocks ecosystem. Trading those holdings on spot markets and securing the early 20% permanent xPoints boost are permissible activities that build potential future token allocation eligibility.
The activities that must be completely avoided are lending xStocks on Kamino, Euler, Loopscale, or JupLend for xPoints multipliers, and all Pendle YT positions on xStocks regardless of the xPoints multiplier attached to them. These activities trigger definitive red lines under Islamic finance principles that no points incentive can override.
The securities lending embedded in xStocks default operations is a new and significant compliance concern that has emerged from the May 2026 Base Prospectus. CoinStudy is submitting this specific question to Chairman Dr. Usman Quddus for formal ruling and will update this analysis when his ruling is received.
Muslim investors who want to participate in xPoints farming while maintaining Islamic finance compliance should hold halal company xStocks for the 1x base rate, secure the 20% early boost, trade halal company tokens on spot markets, consider the 7x liquidity provision path on Raydium or Orca for spot trading pools of halal tokens after assessing specific pool mechanics, and completely avoid all lending protocols and Pendle YT positions regardless of their xPoints multiplier values.
