Can I trade Apple AAPL or NVIDIA NVDA tokens on Arcus as spot? Are these halal on a perps platform?
Question context
CoinStudy's answer
Research opinion from the CoinStudy Sharia team. Not a fatwa.
Spot trading Apple, NVIDIA, Amazon, and Google tokens on Arcus is permissible subject to the specific conditions below. The presence of perpetual futures on the same platform does not make spot trading of halal company tokens impermissible. This is the same infrastructure neutrality principle that allows Muslim investors to use Ethereum despite Aave being deployed on it, or to use Solana despite Pump.fun existing in its ecosystem.
The compliance of your specific spot trade depends on three conditions being met simultaneously.
The first condition is that the underlying company is halal-classified. CoinStudy has analyzed Apple, NVIDIA, Amazon, and Google and all four pass the AAOIFI stock screening criteria for halal company classification based on their debt ratios, haram revenue percentages, and interest income ratios being within permissible boundaries. You should verify the current classification on CoinStudy's analysis pages before trading as company financial ratios can change between analysis updates.
The second condition is that your trade is spot only with no leverage. Spot buying and selling of tokenized Apple or NVIDIA shares at market price with your own capital, no borrowed funds, no leverage multiplier, and no perpetual futures position of any kind is permissible. The moment any leverage is introduced the trade becomes a prohibited arrangement.
The third condition is appropriate caution about USDG as the settlement asset. USDG by Paxos is the primary settlement currency on Arcus. Paxos-issued stablecoins typically maintain T-Bill backed reserves carrying the same Ecosystem Riba Exposure concerns as USDT. The Chairman's conditional permissibility ruling for T-Bill backed stablecoins used as a medium of exchange applies here: using USDG purely to settle spot trades for permissible goods and services, in this case halal company stock tokens, is conditionally permissible with caution.
Two tokens on Arcus you must specifically avoid are SGOV which represents direct investment in US Treasury bills and is explicitly Haram, and any SPY or QQQ index tokens which bundle hundreds of companies including many requiring screening before use. Stick to individual company tokens that CoinStudy has individually classified as halal.
